Morton's Neuroma Foot Doc Appointment #2 - The First Shot

Injury and pain sure can take the wind out of your sail.  I'm not sure if I was overdoing the exercise or if the pain would've gotten worse anyway.  Either way, this week has been light in the exercise department.  I've even had to stop walking except when necessary.  =(

All this just in time for the podiatrist appointment today.  I was very unsure about getting a shot in the foot again.  I went through a series of cortisone-like shots back in 2008 and that's not a pain I'll soon forget.  But if this alcohol solution thing rids me of pain, I'm willing to try it.

The doc was running behind schedule today (aren't they always?).  After waiting almost an hour past my appointment time and giving me WAY too much time to contemplate the impending painful shot, the doc walks in and apologizes for running behind.  I was somewhat perturbed and responded with "what? it's only an hour".  He may or may not have appreciated that comment.  He did explain why he was delayed and it was completely understandable, so I forgave him and we moved on.  He went right to the shot.  I actually didn't feel that much pain.  Here's how it went.

Doc:  Slight pinch now… <needle inserted>

Me:  <preparing for pain but just feel the pressure>

Doc:  I'm gonna need your help finding the right spot, so tell me when it hurts

Me:  uh, ok?  so, you actually want it to hurt more?!?!?

Doc:  yep, that way there's an even better chance that this'll work.  So, here?  <as he starts moving the needle around in my foot>

Me:  uhhhh…

Doc:  it'll hurt like hell - how about here?  <moves the needle a few millimeters>

Me:  ow, hurts a little - not like hell though

Doc:  ok, now?  <moves needle a few more millimeters>

Me:  OW!

Doc:  Got it.

I guess you could say it felt like someone stuck a needle in my foot, but… well… he did.  He started slowly pushing the plunger of the needle.  Then he stopped.  Waited a couple seconds.  Tapped the plunger a bit more - I mean like he was barely pushing it.  I felt an ever-so-slight pressure in my foot, but nothing extreme.  And then he pulled the needle out and we're done.

Wow.  I'm so shocked!  I'll definitely go back for the whole series.  It was nothing like the cortisone shots at all.  Oh my gosh I'm so relieved.  I hope this works now - 86% chance.  If you want to see some pictures of this stuff, just do an image search of "morton's neuroma" and you'll get more than you bargained for - I just did.

But here are the ones I took today…

DietBet Progress check

I am currently participating in two DietBet challenges.  These are a lot of fun!  Support and motivation 24-7.  I can read comments from people who struggle with the same stuff I do and folks who push through the crap and just do it, and those who encourage and inspire.  Awesome stuff!

dietbet www.dietbetter.com
"Get Pumped and Lose Big with Bruce" $64, 560 in the pot with 2,152 players and 6,102 pounds lost so far.  My personal progress graph has me at 56% of my goal.  This DietBet ends on Oct 1st.

"Lose Weight, Win Money with Fitness Magazine!" $86,730 in the pot with 2,891 players and 4,463 pounds lost so far.  My personal progress graph has me at 26% of goal.  This DietBet ends on Oct 7th.

Had to work late today, so I was able to go in a bit later.  The plan was to get up at my normal time and workout.  Uh… yeah, that didn't happen.  My bed was way too comfortable - I don't know why I kid myself into thinking I'll get up early if I don't have to - it's just not gonna happen.

Going in late though, messes with my food schedule.  I don't really follow a strict schedule per se, more like a habit - arrive at work, do this, check that and work on this real quick and then eat.  So if I shift my hours, I arrive at work, do this, check that, that over there, get caught up on this other thing and before I know it, it's 9am!  I'm not a happy person at that point.  Anyway, that's what happened again today.  I got most of the plan accomplished though!

Started checking out Carb-Cycling again.  I haven't committed completely to doing it yet - just checking it out again since so many folks on the DietBet are talking about it.  Bruce lost all his weight using Chris Powell's Carb Cycling Plan.  And in case you haven't seen it yet - Extreme Makeover Weightloss edition is on Hulu (free) and also on ABC's website <<<<Click here to see Bruce's weight loss journey - he rocks!  In the past, I've found the carb-cycling to be a bit confusing, plus I've always avoided "low carb" programs because I LOVE CARBS!!!!  So, after reading more on it, I'm working on a menu for next week to see if I can do it.  I'll share as soon as it's complete and I have a better grasp on the whole thing.

'Til then, I'm off to catch up with my pillow in dreamland. G'Nite!

Turtle Krawl / Weigh-in / The plan

Turtle Krawl 2014 was awesome!  The weather was gorgeous and there were about 2500 people participating.  I finished in just under an hour and walked the whole thing.  My foot was hurting way too much to try to run.  (I'm hoping after the foot doc finishes treating me, I'll be able to start jogging more.)  My son did the 5K too and he came in at just over a half hour.
